Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
