Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he liked playing numerous card games when he was young. He found himself becoming really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his father. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and moved away to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he would play countless hours and lose a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he could boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus attention even more on the game.

The definite advancement in his game happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would regularly challenge each other. Howard had access into a number of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would hone his logical thinking skills. Howard applied these strategic concepts to the game of NL holdem.

He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. He told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. She is one of the best women players the poker world today. Howard headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
