Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
