Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
