Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he loved taking part in different card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while playing his dad. After finishing secondary school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a bit and headed to New York City to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play many hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to get more sleep and concentrate more on poker.
The actual improvement in his skills began when he started gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would frequently play against one another. He had access into a few of the best players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would tweak his strategic thinking skills. He applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
He also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a superb student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the strongest women players the poker arena has ever seen. He relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the successive decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to participate in more tournaments.
